X-ray radiation characteristic in magnetically driven plasma jet experiment

Jets are common astrophysical phenomena in space. To study the formation mechanism of jets, a series of radial foil z-pinch experiments are carried out on PTS to produce plasma jet. In these experiments, the x-ray emission ranging from soft region(0.1-10keV) to hard region (10keV-1MeV) is found to arise when the plasma jet structureforms. The radiation flux of soft x-ray measured by XRD and the dose rate of the hard x-ray is measured by SiPN detector. The result indicates that the soft x-ray energy is about several 10kJ and the hard part only several joules. The radiation mechanism of the x-ray radiationis briefly analyzed. The result indicates that the energy of x-ray radiation and the plasma kinetic energy may be from the magnetic energy release when the magnetic cavity breaks. The soft x-ray is thought to be produced by bremsstrahlung of thermal electrons (~100eV), and the hard part is produced by bremsstrahlung of non-thermal electrons(~MeV). These mechanisms may be useful in astrophysics such as x-ray jet and gamma-ray burst.
