Experimental study on the shell movements of double-shell capsules in low convergence ratio implosions

An indirect-drive implosion experiment is implemented on Shenguang ~180 kJ facility. The shell movement and implosion yield of three capsules, two of which are double-shell capsules, are studied for the volume ignition research. It is designed that the radiation temperature of the hohlraum is ~200 eV, the average implosion velocity of the outer shell is lower than 100 km/s and the convergence ratio is lower than 8. In this condition the shell moves slower and lasts for a longer time after the laser ends, and neutrons mostly come from the inertial compression process instead of the shock wave convergence process. The x-ray streak image of the imploding capsule is obtained by an x-ray streak camera with an imaging slit under a 4.5 keV backlighter. The trajectories of the shell movements coincide well with the simulated results by 1D code. The measured highest neutron yield is 4×108 and the corresponding 1D YOC is 4.5%.
