Topochemcial polymerization under high pressure

Chemical reactions under high pressure is significantly different from those under ambient conditions due to the suppression of molecular diffusion, which makes the chemical reaction more topochemical. By determining the crystal structure of the unsaturated molecules including acetylene, acetonitrile and benzene-perfluorobenzene, the mechanism of the polymerization under high pressure is investigated and interpreted by topochemical reaction. At the reaction, the nearest intermolecular distance between the unsaturated carbon decreases from alkyne to cyanide and aromatics, which means it is much easier to drive alkynes to polymerize but more difficult to compress aromatics to polymerize.
