The Fe/ZSM-5 catalysts with different Fe contents were prepared and used for catalytic cracking of wood sawdust-derived pyrolytic vapors by pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry instrument (Py-GC/MS). The effects of Fe contents, reaction temperature and mass ratio of catalyst to biomass on the yields and distribution of liquid products were studied. Based on the experiment results, it was found that the yields of liquid products, especially aromatic hydrocarbons, are gradually increased with the increase of Fe contents from 5% to 15%, and the 15Fe/ZSM-5 catalyst displayed the best activity among the three catalysts. Under the optimal reaction conditions (temperature of 600 oC, catalyst to biomass ratio of 10), the 15Fe/ZSM-5 catalyst produced the greatest amounts of aromatic hydrocarbons. The incorporation of Fe into ZSM-5 zeolites contributed to the transformation of oxygenated products into high valuable aromatic hydrocarbons during the catalytic cracking of wood sawdust-derived pyrolytic vapors reaction.
