This work presents an experimental test bench, with the purpose of to enable the generation and measurement of the traveling waves in order to support the developing and evaluation of detection, localization, and protection methods based on traveling waves. The experimental test bench was performed by means of a real cable, which ensures the wave propagation, voltages and currents transducers, impedances, and an oscilloscope for data acquisition. The traveling waves were generated by means of controlled fault switchings. Solutions for technical difficulties inherent in the measurement of high-frequency transients are presented. The evaluations were performed off-line. The results are compatible with the traveling waves theory and demonstrate the feasibility of evaluating methods based on traveling waves by means of the presented assembly.
