Teaching evaluation is an effective way of students' feedback, which can reflect the students’ ability to master professional knowledge and to solve the problem with the knowledge acquired. Vocational students skills competition organized by Education Ministry is an effective teaching evaluation method, which develops with the college English teaching reform while needed and promoted each other. Traditional English evaluation standard is questioned with the development of th vocational students skills competition.This article attempts to carry on the empirical research of vocational skills competition’s backwash effect on teacher's oral English teaching and students' oral English learning , and explore if the students' gender, professional background and English level will affect the test backwash effect.Taking Alderson&Wall backwash effect theory as the background, this article studies the backwash effect of vocational students skills competition on the influence of teachers' teaching and students' oral English learning.In 5 vocational and technical college of Hunan province, 80 non-English major students and 10 tutors who participates the training of the vocational students skills competition as the research object, through collecting the research data from the questionnaires, this article intends to answer the following three research questions:1.Teachers’ feedback of the influence of the competition content, grading standards and implementation methods of vocational students skills competition for oral English teaching. 2. The influence of vocational students skills competition for the students' oral English’s learning attitude, learning motivation, learning strategy, learning materials. 3. Will the vocational students skills competition produce different backwash effect for students of different gender, professional background and English level.Through the statistical analysis of the data collected, this study suggests that the backwash effect of vocational students skills competition on higher vocational English teaching and students' oral English learning is positive, and backwash effect is different to certain extent according to the students’ level.This study has important reference value for further improvement of vocational students skills competition, also helps to set up a benign development pattern of professional skills contest and college oral English teaching.
