Local universities aim to cultivate applied talents to serve local economy. With the demand for diversified English talents in the society, the significant factor that cannot be neglected in the cultivation of applied English talents in local universities is customer satisfaction, which is indispensable for the workplace and plays a crucial role in language testing and evaluation of applied English talents.So far, however, language testing and assessment in local universities is still constricted to language knowledge and language competence. Taking non-English major students of the local universities in Liaoning Province (in China) as an example, this study aims to improve the validity of language testing and assessment for the workplace so as to promote the educational quality of applied English talents.
The paper opts for an exploratory study using the open-ended approach based on the Likert 5 point scale. Predicated upon the data of 220 valid questionnaires collected, we carried out the descriptive statistics, the correlation analysis and the regression analysis.
The paper suggests that customer satisfaction( including integrated knowledge and integrated skills ) is the vital indicator of language testing and evaluation for the workplace, and there is a significantly positive correlation between integrated knowledge, integrated skills and their relationship with language testing and evaluation for the workplace. Customer satisfaction affects the dimension,the route and the standard of language testing and evaluation. By ways of analyzing customer satisfaction and the present situation of language assessment for the workplace, three innovative ideas are provided in this essay: "customer satisfaction-oriented" dimension of language testing and assessment,"customer satisfaction-oriented" route of language testing and assessment, "customer satisfaction-oriented" standard of language testing and assessment.
