Currently, the construction of ESP textbooks gradually enters the stage of rapid development in universities. However, it is still a weak part in ESP teaching because of the textbook problems. It apparently lags behind the development of EGP (English for general purpose) textbooks. It is very necessary to build a evaluating system of ESP textbook design which is based on the learning-centered approach from four aspects: input, content focus, language focus and task. This system presents a definite objective of cultivation, insists on the principle of adequateness and emphasizes the reality, practice and creativity of text materials. It focuses on the learners’ needs, teaching contents, teaching methods and professional quality. It can not only make up the shortcomings of ESP textbook design, but direct its compilation and development scientifically and objectively. The teaching aim of this evaluating system is to meet students obtaining the practical English skills for their coming professions.
