With the implementation of China’s “One Belt, One Road” strategy, China needs increasing number of talents with intercultural communication competence to interact with the world. This report, as a sub-report of A Survey Report on the Compatibility of English Proficiency Demand of Chongqing Enterprises and the Design of College English Curriculum, aims to explore situations of the English curriculum of School of Automation of Chongqing University (CQU) and some brotherly academies and ways to improve its efficacy. It collects data through questionnaires and interviews with teachers of English courses, students and HR staff and conducts qualitative and quantitative data analysis from three aspects: 1. Current situation of English course design, teaching content, etc in the School of Automation of CQU and its peers; 2. Students’ demands for college English courses and English proficiency; 3. Current and future requirements of main relevant employers for graduates’ English proficiency. Combining the results of data analysis and China’s Standards of English Language Ability, this report gives corresponding suggestions to better adapt English curriculum to the needs of students and their employers and thus has significant implications for college English teaching for both Chongqing and China contexts.
