Guidelines on College English Teaching promulgated by the Ministry of Education further confirms that English for Specific Purposes plays an important role in future college English teaching. In the process of implementing teaching ESP, Teachers are provided with collective resources and a partnership to share classroom management and presentation of curriculum to enhance the learning environment. Co-teaching provides teachers with a partnership that offers each educator another way of looking at the curriculum. Co-teaching provides students with an additional teacher as well as added support in the learning environment. Based on the theory of Co-teaching model, this paper illustrates the main approaches, basic elements as well as the disadvantages of this model. Combined with the teaching practice of English for Medical Purposes in our college, this paper elucidates the main procedures and advantages of Co-teaching model and puts forward some suggestions of implementing this model.
