After a brief introduction to the definition and concepts of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), this article first reviews the current situations and drawbacks of International Academic Communication English courses at colleges and universities in China. Then, it points out the necessities and importance of designing and opening the discipline-based Course “International Academic Communication English” for such extensive engineering disciplines as Mechanical Engineering, Automation and Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Environmental and Chemical Engineering, etc. Next, based on EAP concepts, it discusses in details the feasibility of the Course from such perspectives as course concepts and goals (learner-centered and reading-and-writing-oriented), contents and practice (academic conferences, scientific papers, research proposals and reports, and education and employment correspondence), teaching methodology (a combination of in-class task-based teaching and after-class autonomous learning), and course teaching team (interdisciplinary alliance). Finally, this article outlooks the development of the Course in MOOC teaching and corpus-based data-driven learning.
