Interesting materials are instrumental in deciding approaches for teachers of English for specific purposes (ESP). This paper uses a survey with students majoring in finance and insurance and shows a close match between interesting and authentic materials and the TBLT approach. The materials I use (authored by me and to be published later this year) have 8 chapters, and close to 200 illustrations about key financial concepts and more than 20 well-known financial cases from past and present and home and abroad. These illustrations and cases stimulated students by building a link between learners’ previous knowledge and skills in finance and the English language, and significantly facilitated the TBLT approach by providing materials for such activities as role play, comparing, and problem-solving.
